Ninety
Nine Dots

الأسماء الحسنى
Idea

One dot per name. Nine columns, eleven rows: 9 × 11 = 99. The grid is the logo, the progress bar, the card back, the packaging, the poster. Memorise a name, a dot fills.

Mood

Confident, young, unapologetically contemporary. Square Kufic — the oldest geometric Arabic — meets a Swiss grid and a wide grotesk. Nike Run Club energy, for dhikr.

01 — Strategy

Position:
the movement.

Direction 01 sells a beautiful object. This direction sells a practice. 99names becomes the brand a 19-year-old in Jakarta, Lagos or Toronto wears on a hoodie, checks at Fajr, and competes on with friends. It owns a number the way Nike owns a swoosh.

Principle I

The number is the brand

"99" is already globally legible in every language and script. We never need to translate the logo. Dot grid + 99 = instantly ownable.

Principle II

Progress is visible

The grid tells you where you are. 41 filled dots on a profile, a card back, a poster on a wall. It makes memorisation social without gamifying the sacred.

Principle III

Kufic, not calligraphy

Square Kufic is architectural, built on a grid, and reads as modern even though it is 1,000 years old. It is the one Arabic style that looks native next to a grotesk.

Voice

Direct. Punchy. Kind.

Headlines are three words. Copy talks like a friend who prays. "Name 41. You know this one." · "He's Al-Wadud. Act like it." · "99 names. 0 excuses."

Tagline

"Know all 99."

A challenge, not a promise. Channel lines: "One dot at a time." (app) · "Fill the grid." (quiz) · "Ninety-nine, in your hand." (cards).

03 — Colour

Bone. Ink.
Cobalt. Signal.

Warm bone paper instead of white, true black ink, and two loud accents that never appear together on the same surface. Lime is for the quiz only — a "correct" state.

Rule

Cobalt and Signal never touch. Cobalt = knowledge, the Arabic, the link. Signal = now, the current name, the button.

Print

Bone = Munken Pure / GF Smith Naturals. Cobalt = Pantone 2728 C. Signal = Pantone Orange 021 C. Ink = rich black, or a spot black for the grid.

Contrast

Ink/Bone 17.8:1 · Bone/Cobalt 7.4:1 · Ink/Signal 7.1:1 · Ink/Lime 17:1. Everything passes AAA for body text.

All open (OFL). Premium upgrades for the print edition: Archivo → Druk Wide or PP Right Grotesk; Reem Kufi → 29LT Kaff or a commissioned square-Kufic "99" by a calligrapher (recommended — this becomes a trademarkable asset).

05 — The physical cards

Four inks.
One grid.

Each name is printed on a single flat colour. The back of every card is the grid with that name's dot lit — lay the deck out and the backs become a 99-dot mural. The box is a solid bone cube with the filled grid debossed.

Format

99 cards, 63 × 88mm (poker size — fits every sleeve, every pocket, cheaper to ship globally). Square corners. 400gsm.

Range

Deck $24 · Poster (the 99 grid, A1) $39 · Hoodie / tee with the grid and a single lit dot of your choice $45 — the merch is personal progress.

Flash-quiz mode

Front = Arabic only. Back = everything. The deck doubles as a physical quiz. Comes with a bone "progress card" you stamp.

06 — App

Fill the grid.

Home = the grid, your dots, today's name in Signal. Quiz is a 30-second flash round. Reminders are one word: the name. Friends' grids are visible, not ranked.

Icon

Cobalt square, bone "٩٩" in Reem Kufi. Or the 9 × 11 grid in bone on ink.

Widget

Lock-screen widget is just the grid. Watching it fill is the retention mechanic.

Motion

Dots pop in with a hard, 120ms ease-out. No fades. Transitions snap — think a mechanical counter.

09 — Rules

Do / Don't

Do

Keep it flat. One colour per surface.
Set every headline in caps, wide, tight.
Use the grid as a texture, a progress bar and a logo — it's the same thing.
Let Arabic be big. Bigger than the Latin when in doubt.

Don't

No gradients, shadows, glows, or gold.
No rounded corners bigger than 0 (print) / 4px (UI).
No ornamental calligraphy — Kufic only.
Never put Cobalt and Signal on the same surface.
